Robert Falk was a Russian and Soviet painter born in Moscow, known for blending Russian Art Nouveau sensibilities with avant-garde experimentation. He was a founding member of the Jack of Diamonds group, working in richly colored, Cézanne-influenced still lifes, portraits and landscapes. Falk lived in France for much of the 1920s and early 1930s before returning to the Soviet Union, where he continued painting despite official disfavor until his death in 1958.
