Sergei Sudeikin

b. 1882

Sergei (Serge) Sudeikin was a Russian painter and stage designer active with the Mir Iskusstva circle and later the Ballets Russes and the Metropolitan Opera. Expelled from the Moscow School of Painting for 'obscene drawings,' he found his footing among the Mir Iskusstva artists and close friends such as the poet Mikhail Kuzmin and impresario Sergei Diaghilev, who invited him to Paris in 1906 for the Salon d'Automne. He emigrated after the Revolution and continued his set-design career in the United States, working with the Metropolitan Opera until his death in Nyack, New York.
